Thursday marks the 160th anniversary of when Big Ben began striking the hour, on 11 July 1859. MPs and peers would have to move out during the restoration, which could last as long as 20 years, but a full plan for the restoration of the Palace of Westminster is yet to be presented to Parliament. The works are due to start in 2027 and costs have already been estimated to reach £14billion - far more than the £4billion originally proposed. Its a lot easier to get great photos in winter.
